Frequently asked Questions.

1. What is Art Licensing?

Art licensing allows businesses to legally use artwork for a specified purpose (like on products or in marketing materials), while compensating the artist for their work. In exchange for licensing the design, the artist receives either a flat fee or a percentage of the revenue generated from the use of the design (royalties).

2. What Types of Licenses Do You Offer?

  • Royalty-Based License: The licensee (you) pays a percentage of the sales generated by products that feature my artwork. Royalties are typically paid quarterly or annually, depending on the agreement.

  • Buyout License: This is a one-time payment for the design(s), with no further payments or royalties. You get full ownership of the design for a set period of time, or indefinitely, based on the terms of the buyout.

  • Exclusive License: This gives you the exclusive rights to use the design(s) within a specific market or territory. I won’t license the same design to any other businesses in that area or category for the duration of the contract.

  • Non-Exclusive License: You can use the design(s) for your product, but I’m free to license the same design to other businesses in different markets or territories.

3. How Does Royalty-Based Licensing Work?

With royalty-based licensing, you pay a percentage of sales from products that feature my designs. The percentage can vary based on factors like:

  • Product type

  • Territories where the design is used

  • Duration of the license

Royalties are typically paid quarterly or annually, and the agreement will specify how and when payments are made. This model is great for businesses that want to invest in designs without upfront costs.

4. What is an Exclusive License?

An exclusive license grants you the exclusive rights to use the design(s) within a defined market or region. This means I won’t license the same design to other businesses in that category or location during the term of the agreement. Exclusive licenses tend to cost more, as they limit my ability to license the design elsewhere.

5. What is a Buyout License?

A buyout license involves a one-time payment for the use of a design. After the payment, you gain full ownership of the design(s) for the duration agreed upon in the contract, and there are no further payments or royalties involved. This can be ideal if you want to fully own the artwork and avoid ongoing royalty fees.

6. How Do You Determine Pricing?

Pricing is based on several factors, including:

  • The type of license (royalty-based, buyout, exclusive, etc.)

  • The scope of use (e.g., how many products, how many territories, how long the design will be used)

  • The scale of the project (smaller businesses vs. large corporations)

Once you submit an inquiry with details about your project, I’ll provide a tailored selection of art to suit your needs.

7. How Do I Get Started?

To get started, simply submit an inquiry form with details about the theme or style of designs you’re interested in and how you plan to use them. After reviewing your request, I’ll send you appropriate images via Dropbox (or your preferred file sharing platform) and if anything suits your requirements I will work with you to establish a licensing agreement that fits your needs.
